David Murray grew up in a cabin in Tennessee with three brothers and hard-working parents. He learned the arts of both music and woodworking at a young age. Daveattended John Brown University in northwest Arkansas, where he led worship for chapel services. There he met his wife, Mel. They married young and decided to spend their first summer as newlyweds working in a Ugandan orphanage. They knew they shared a passion to change the lives of people living in poverty; they just didn’t know how to do it yet.It was in Uganda that their dream gained clear direction. They realized that while the orphans had housing, food, and clothing, they lacked opportunities and therefore had little hope for the future. That experience compelled the Murrays to seek sustainable solutions to the needs of those living in the majority world. Today, the Murrays continue to spend their days loving on their community and helping them reach their potential through sustainable employment. The share a dream to see everyone in their community experience the opportunities that they have enjoyed throughout their lives. As expansion director of JoyCorps, David is responsible for exploring partnerships with organizations, ministries, and individuals interested in replicating its model in other communities across the world.
